A three-day workshop and Medforval meeting in France, as part of the MediteRE3 project

Oikos Institute organized a three-day workshop and Medforval meeting, in Sigonce, France, held from October 2 to October 5, 2023.
The event was attended by the project’s representatives of institutions, partners, and stakeholders.
The first day was dedicated to an ongoing workshop that highlighted the project’s goals, including the creation of fire-resistant landscapes and action plans.
Key discussions revolved around challenges such as ownership, responsibility, legal and budgetary issues in landscape restoration, with solutions emphasizing collaboration and knowledge sharing.
During the second day, the participants took part in a field visit to the burned forests, between the villages of Villeneuve and Noisiel, in order to understand the dynamics of fire development and efforts to restore vegetation. Also, they visited the research experiment on oak adaptation at the Saint-Michel observatory.
The final workshop was held on the third day. It included a presentation about the history and activities of the Medforval network and an interactive session aimed at setting future priorities. Key objectives of the network included expanding membership, increasing visibility, sharing best practices, organizing meetings, and seeking funding opportunities.
This activity is part of the project entitled ”Restoring Resilience of Mediterranean Landscapes to Reduce GHG Emissions from Wildfires -MediterRE3″, which is financially supported by the European Climate Initiative (EUKI).
